How do different words or phrases correspond to different values in gematria?

gematria is a type of ancient numerology used to gain a deeper understanding of words or phrases in the Bible and other sacred texts. It assigns numerical values to each character in the text, with various correspondences between these numbers and their spiritual meanings. Each number is said to correspond to a certain spiritual value or quality.

For example, in the first verse of the Book of Genesis, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth," each character has its own numerical value (1 for In, 2 for beginning, etc.). The phrase "God created" has four words with different values (7+2+6+2 = 17). According to gematria, this number carries the meaning "renewal, new cycles of life, bringing something into manifestation."

Likewise, some Hebrew names have associated numerical values based on their spelling and specific letters used. For example, "Moses" totals 345 which according to gematria means: "Divinely-gifted leader who will be obeyed." Similarly "David" has a total of 14 which stands for: "The beloved one who will conquer enemies."

Another form of gematria assigns values to specific words rather than individual characters. For instance if we examine the phrase "the Lord is my shepherd" we can add up each of its six words (2+30+40+1+300+10 = 383) giving us a meaning like: "peace that comes from knowing that one is being provided for by higher power."
